Your dogs health

Most health issues are not serious and can be treated at home. Here are some notes I have compiled, some issues are generalised and some specific to larger breeds and The Neapolitan Mastiff.

Prevention is better than cure

Prevention is always better than cure, which is why your puppy/dog should undergo an ongoing annual vaccination program and vet health checks.

Another thing i cannot stress highly enough is how important pet insurance is! I have come across several occassions where puppies and older dogs have been dumped in rescue centres simply because their owners cannot keep up with ongoing veterinary expences which in the worst senerio could run into thousands of pounds!!!! Of course some of these policies are quite expensive, but some are reasonable and easily affordable. Basic cover is enough and any insurance is better than none! failing Insurance cover why not set up a standing order with your vet? few pounds a month you will have peace of mind that if anything happens at least you have saved some money towards what could be a large vet bill!

I would say to all people condering buying a dog, "if you can't afford costly vet bills, a monthly premium to cover insurance for your pet, or a small standing order with your vet to ensure your dogs continued wellbeing You should not consider buying a dog"! Harsh words maybe, but veterinary care is an essential part of dog ownership and owners have a duty of care to ensure their dogs are kept happy and healthy.
